19 July 2008 We have linked to scans of Hrana saga hrings, Þóris þáttr hasts ok Bárðar birtu, Þórleifr Jónsson's Fjörutíu Íslendinga þættir, and Haken's eighteenth-century study of the legendary city of Jomsborg. All scans provided by Michael. [library]
2 July 2008 Meissner's Kenningar der Skalden is now available in pdf and in book-form. [library]
31 March 2008 A reprint of Bosworth & Toller has been added to our bookshop, in two volumes plus supplement. [bookshop]
10 March 2008 Over the past week and half, Gísla saga and volumes I and III of Alfræði íslenzk have been converted to hardcopy form and added to our bookshop. A paperback edition of the Clavis poëtica has also been provided. A slow but steady flow of additions should follow. [bookshop]
1 March 2008 A number of dead and missing links have been repaired; works like Lewis and Short, Bosworth and Toller and supplement, and Noreen's grammars should now be easier to find. We have also begun the process of converting a number of our dual-page scans into one-page-per-sheet pdfs that have, in turn, been resized to match common printing specifications. [library]
25 February 2008 More reprints added to our hardcopy bookshop this week are the four volumes of Finnur Jónsson's Skjaldedigtning and the Clavis poëtica, all in hardcover. Most of these are 400dpi scans, which should make for comfortable reading. [bookshop]
20 February 2008 The Lexicon poeticum, second Finnur Jónsson edition (1931) is now also available for online consultation. This means we now have all editions of the Lexicon poeticum up, as well as the derivative Clavis poetica. You will want to update your bookmarks to link directly to the 1931 edition rather than the 1913-16 edition that has been our default so far. The headword list for the 1860 edition is now complete as well, though the quality of the scan leaves a lot to be desired so that no html version can be generated. The other html editions are all still uncorrected; volunteers are invited to proofread the html. [lexica poetica]
18 February 2008 The Lexicon poeticum, second Finnur Jónsson edition (1931) is now also available in print. The quality of this print should be considerably better than that of our Hauksbók and Stjórn reprints. [bookshop]
17 February 2008 We have added print links to our pdfs of Stjórn and Hauksbók to facilitate print reproduction. The links redirect to online publisher lulu.com, which delivers quality hardcover prints and ships them across the globe. While we cannot afford the time to produce print editions of all our texts, some may follow. (NB that the print quality of these first two works is limited by the quality of the Sagnanetið scans. They are not equal in quality to the original editions.) [bookshop]
1 January 2008 Knýtlinga saga is here. I noticed some downtime yesterday; let's hope that was a one-time situation. [library]
28 December 2007 Everything at the Lexicon is now back to normal. NB that a few hundred headwords of the first edition have still not been entered, although their content is accessible. I may get around to the headwords later this week.
19 December 2007 The Lexicon poeticum, second edition is now back up, although the interface cannot be quite restored until I get back to Toronto next week.
17 December 2007 Our Lexicon poeticum interface appears not to be working. We are hoping to fix it within the next few weeks.
14 December 2007 The domain septentrionalia.org has now been occupied by a squatter; we will not get it back. Our new address is www.septentrionalia.net.
25 November 2007 At the anniversary of septentrionalia, our webhost has disgracefully lost us the rights to the domain. The website is at http://septentrionalia.dreamhosters.com while we try to fix this problem.
29 October 2007 A discrepancy in the headword-list of Finnur's Lexicon Poeticum has been fixed (pp. 501-11). The new webhost is up and ready; the waiting is for the old host to transfer domain rights.
4 October 2007 In the course of this month, we will be moving to a different webhost. Please bear with us should the transfer be less than smooth.
4 October 2007 Although available in image and html formats elsewhere, we have decided to make Bosworth and Toller's Anglo-Saxon Dictionary and its Supplement available in pdf format. [library]
3 October 2007 New: Noreen's Altschwedische Grammatik. [library]
30 September 2007 For those impatient with the limited bandwidth over at the Tufts project, or simply looking to cite the work, here is a pdf of Lewis and Short's legendary Latin Dictionary. Also new: Bright's Anglo-Saxon Reader and Noreen's Altisländische und altnorwegische Grammatik. [library]
23 September 2007 As both our careers are now taking off, we'll have considerably less time to digitise more documents. We have, however, recently obtained a number of secondary works in digital formats that will gradually make their way onto the website. Many of these documents have come our way indirectly so that we cannot credit all those who have contributed. We should, however, mention Ilya, who has scanned several of these files himself and has generously presented us with all of them. The first of these to go online is Balg's Comparative Glossary of the Gothic Language. [library]
16 July 2007 Finnur Jónsson's edition of Egils saga is here. [library]
2 July 2007 Some formatting issues with the second volume of Jón Sigurðsson's Edda Snorra Sturlusonar have been fixed. [library]
30 June 2007 Plater and White's Grammar of the Vulgate is here. [library] We'll need another week to complete indexing the headwords for the Lexicon poeticum, first edition. [lexica poetica]
27 June 2007 New: Finnur Jónsson's editions of Óláfs saga Tryggvasonar and Gísla saga. We have also decided to expand our field to include Latin editions and scholarship relevant to medieval learning; our first acquisition in this field not otherwise connected with northern Europe is the De excidio Troiae. [library]
23 June 2007 Mart has brought to our attention that Sveinbjörn Egilsson's first edition of the Lexicon Poeticum was published online by the Internet Archive last week in several image formats as well as ocr text format [link]. The copy used was Toronto's. Unfortunately, the quality of the scan is characteristically poor. We are nevertheless including the scan in our online dictionary (png only) until a better scan becomes available. Give us a couple of days to enter the headwords. [lexica poetica]
21 June 2007 The secondary scholarship section of our library has acquired Fiske's study Chess in Iceland. [library]
17 June 2007 Newly added: Adam of Bremen's Gesta Hammaburgensis Ecclesiae Pontificum. [library]
16 June 2007 New: Fagrskinna. [library]
26 May 2007 The B volumes of Skjaldedigtning have been redone, particularly on account of the qualitative inferiority of the B2 scan provided by the Skaldic Project. [library]
21 May 2007 Now online: the long-awaited 1821 edition of the Leiðarvísir. [library]
13 May 2007 The Clavis Poetica, a Latin-Old Norse dictionary based on a reversal of the Lexicon Poeticum entries, is now online in image, pdf, and uncorrected html formats. The one task remaining in our lexica poetica project is the digitisation of the 1860 edition of the Lexicon Poeticum, which translates from Old Norse into neo-Latin. If you have access to a copy of this work in a condition and binding that allow for photocopying, please let us know. [lexica poetica]
9 May 2007 Lilja is here. [library]
2 May 2007 Knytlinga saga has been scheduled for release when its copyright expires, in January 2008. [library]
9 Apr 2007 We have obtained a copy of the Anglo-Latin Leiden Glossary [library]. Scan provided by Alaric.
7 Apr 2007 Our copy of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle has been upgraded to a higher-resolution, smaller-size b&w file. Get it here; or download just the glossary here. The page numbering of Skjaldedigtning volume B1 has been corrected, and a duplicate page has been removed from volume B2 [library].
6 Apr 2007 New: Finnur Jónsson's edition of Morkinskinna [library].
3 Apr 2007 Our library has acquired the third and last volume of the Alfræði íslenzk series, Landalýsingar.
31 Mar 2007 Holthausen's Altsächsisches Elementarbuch is here.
30 Mar 2007 New: an edition of Sólarljóð by Björn M. Ólsen.
27 Mar 2007 Some issues with the Lexicon Poeticum, second edition, have been fixed: pages 67 and 68 of the online edition have been rotated, and three pages of the pdf version have been resized so as to closer match the other pages. Please redownload.
26 Mar 2007 The first volume of the Alfræði íslenzk series is here: Codex AM 194, 8vo.
25 Mar 2007 Our etext section, rechristened our library, now also links to editions made available online by others. Note that the quality of such externally digitised documents may vary considerably.
19 Mar 2007 A previously missing page has been added to Finnur Jónsson's Grammatik for det islenske oldsprog; please download the file anew. Thanks to Christophe for pointing out the omission.

25 Dec 2006 The Heliand is up.
23 Dec 2006 Grágás and an edition of much of the Exeter Book, the Metres of Boethius, Salomon and Saturn, and the Psalms are here.
21 Dec 2006
  • We have completed a first, uncorrected php edition of the Lexicon poeticum (second, Danish edition). We are looking for volunteers to handcorrect the corpus!
  • We are experiencing difficulties obtaining access to the Latin first edition of the Lexicon poeticum. Expect a delay. (If you are in the possession of a private copy and you are in Reykjavík, please consider lending it to us for a week.)
18 Dec 2006
15 Dec 2006 The second, Danish edition of the Lexicon poeticum has now been digitised in tiff and png formats up to and including page 447.
14 Dec 2006

  • Alexanders saga has been added to the etexts section, and so has Trojumanna saga hin forna.
4 Dec 2006 The first two volumes of Finnur Jónsson's Skjaldedigtning have been added to the etexts project. Enjoy!
2 Dec 2006 We have invested in a second scanner. This means higher quality at greater speed despite smaller filesizes, and a definitive green light for the lexica poetica project. All or most future scans will be performed in sufficient quality to allow ocr, while double file releases become redundant. It remains to be seen whether any of the previously-digitised texts will be upgraded to match these specifications. Our current priorities are with Skjaldedigtning and the Lexicon.
1 Dec 2006 The Auraicept na n-éces is here.
30 Nov 2006 Wimmer's Oldnordisk formlære is up.

27 Nov 2006
  • Earle and Plummer's edition of the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle has been added to the etexts project.
  • The quality of our scans leaves something to be desired (blurring near the edges). A small one-time contribution of ISK 19.500 / EUR 220 could instantly improve both the quality and the pace of our work for at least the rest of the academic year. Contact us.
26 Nov 2006 A section "scholarship" has been added to the etexts page. We are currently indexing and scanning public-domain works for inclusion, so keep an eye on the list.
25 Nov 2006 The site is up and a few etexts have been added; further content follows in December.
